We will have a lunch and learn at 12pm on February 11 with Brad Bigelow presenting on Scope Management. Brad Bigelow has over 40 years' experience in project and program management in the US Air Force, NATO, and the publishing world. He's been a chapter lead in updates to the PMBOK and a member of the core committee responsible for the most recent edition of the Standard for Program Management and is now working on the team revising this standard. He's been a featured speaker at PMI conferences in the US, Europe, and the Middle East and now teaches courses on scope management and project governance for PMI SeminarsWorld. Most project managers are familiar with the concept of the Iron Triangle (cost, time, scope) that constrains most projects. Unlike cost and time, however, scope doesn't lend itself to easy quantification — which often makes it the chief source of conflicts within a project. That's because scope is a social construct, and when the members of a project team are dispersed, establishing and maintaining a common understanding of scope can be especially tough. Brad will talk about some of the practical ways in which project teams can improve their understanding of scope and avoid conflicts in the course of project planning and execution. You can join the meeting from your computer, tablet or smartphone.
